Fitzwilliam Inn reopens this fall!

For more than 200 years, the historic Fitzwilliam Inn has been the cornerstone of our beautiful New England common, hosting travellers, while providing food, entertainment & venue space for all types of special events.  With a restaurant, pub & additional spaces in the sunroom & salon, as well as a spacious lawn, the Fitzwilliam Inn can easily host multiple activities as well as overnight guests.  Each resident of our small town has different connections to this landmark, & it is the business that is most closely associated with the history & vitality of our community.
My father was only a boy when he began mowing the yard, & my aunt was a chambermaid.  Later, my cousins worked there as waitresses.  Personally, I learned to swim in the pool with lessons provided by the Fitzwilliam Recreation program & later, when I became a day camp counselor, I would walk my recreation groups to the pool for their lessons.  In high school, I remember performing interactive mystery dinner theatre.  While the Kelly family owned & operated the restaurant, I tended bar & served tables.  I shall never forget so many special events, like family reunions & celebrations of life.  I'll never forget bringing the Kelly's youngest daughter to her first concert, All American Rejects; the best part of a family business like the Fitzwilliam Inn is how close we, as townspeople, become to the families that undertake this grand responsibility.  With the last owners, I hosted special events like charity karaokes, birthday parties for FPU Alumni, & provided entertainment as MC for one of Fitzwilliam's first same sex weddings, a memorable New Years Eve
just a couple years ago when my close friends & neighbors were married in the front salon with their reception in a beautifully decorated dining room. Just last Halloween, I coordinated several town businesses in a Halloween Dance for local children, while also creating a fundraiser for the Historical Society with tours of the haunted George Emerson home.
I believe shirley temples will always be the perfect reward for a good report card. The signature Sunday brunch will be returning along with a piano for the front salon.  Local owners Chelley & David Tighe have freshened the ambiance with a very thorough cleaning, from the floors to the repainted walls, as well as expanding & opening up the bar for additional seating.  There is also a wood-burning pizza oven in the sunroom. The rooms, which were recently remodeled, with most having private bathrooms, are available for rent & the community spaces are available for private parties & social events as well.  Live music, open mic nights & other entertainment is being organized; I encourage musicians, poets & other artists to inquire about opportunities.
I am very happy to announce that I, too, shall be returning to the staff of the restaurant, bartending each Wednesday night to start the week (the restaurant will be closed Mondays & Tuesdays, although still be available for private parties).  I've made so many great friends over the years that I have been involved with the Fitzwilliam Inn with whom I can't wait to get reacquainted, & I am excited to introduce a new generation of residents & visitors to this incredible landmark.  My close friend Dani Fleming, with whom I have worked in restaurants since our childhood, will be assisting me each week. Overall, there is a great team of experienced restaurant employees excited for our grand opening at the end of the month.
Please take a moment & 'Like' the new Facebook page for the Fitzwilliam Inn so that you will be kept up to date about events, specials, menu changes & other important information. For the next few weeks, our new executive chef will be trying various specials to see which favorites should be included in the regular menu, & your feedback would be greatly appreciated to help with those decisions.  Opening a restaurant is fun & exciting, but it is much work with risk, & I hope that all of you will support Chelley & David in this endeavor which will only enhance our town.  If you have an upcoming birthday, anniversary, or other special event, contact the Fitzwilliam Inn for a quote to host your occasion.   Stop by to see the renovations & meet the new staff, & enjoy some delicious food & a full service bar.
I know that Hump Day bartending in Fitzwilliam will be a lot of fun & would love it if you would join me! Thanksgiving Eve will be an especially fun night.
